"I'm scratching my head along with Ann here. I thought settlement was a legal vehicle for ending a civil dispute prior to trial. Isn't it a little late for the defendant to attempt to negotiate a settlement once the plaintiff has won? Doesn't the court order the settlement and fix the amount at that point?"
I am with Ann and TD also. I too thought that the court order was the finally word on it unless they win the appeal, I do not understand how they can now try to settle out of court with a gag.

History of Head Covering for JW Women
by UnDisfellowshipped init is not a case of her being appointed to conduct a congregational meeting.
in such cases the dedicated brother should offer the prayer, and the sister may conduct the study with her head covered.
for if a woman does not cover herself, let her also be shorn.1 cor.

I was raised in the religion but by parents who never studied with me and I was never allowed to ask questions. It was just do as I was told period. So what I knew about the"truth" was what I learned was from the meetings and personal study.
My dad was not baptized until I was 12 years old and all four of us were baptized together, my mom sister dad and I. We never ate dinner at the table always just sitting in front of the TV or at fast food places. We NEVER PRAYED as a family NEVER. It was like my parents were against praying. I know, I know it was strange. I grew up in a totally nut case family.
So here I am 16 years old, baptized and I was given this study with a 20 something year old women who had been raised around the truth but never baptized. This one day only an elder who was in his 60 was out in service so it was just the two of us.
So here we are at my study and I am really stressed out conducting in front of this elder who is very, very, very hard core. So of course the elder says the prayer and then he expects me to conduct the study. So I am trying so hard to be perfect and he says to us the study and I "what about the angles?" I am totally confused and just look blankly at him. He again says the angles are watching you know! I was again just thinking OK so the angles are watching and what am I doing wrong? The study is as confused as I am.
Turns out he was flipped out and mad that I did not have a head covering. I had never heard of it. Somehow I must have missed the meetings it was talked about the study also did not know.
I was horrified. I would up putting a paper towel on my head. I truly thought the elder was crazy until I got home and looked it up. I just could not believe that JW's truly believed that women were to put head coverings on, it just seemed totally crazy.
OH how I wished that had woken me up at only 16 but my family was so crazy that the JW's seemed normal and I stayed until I was in my 40's I so wish I could go back in time and tell my 16 year old self to RUN!!!

Remembering Our Dear Richard Rawe
by Dogpatch inrichard m. rawe was born may 10, 1934. he died in his sleep a little before midnight, october 26, 1012, in soap lake, washington.
his death was caused by probable acute myocardial infarction and cardiovascular disease.. in 1995, richard had a major stroke that left him with damage to his vocal cords.
previous to the stroke he had a beautiful speaking voice and was much in demand as a speaker in kingdom halls in the northwest when he was a jehovahs witness prior to 1975. in his later years, richard was the host with the raspy, croaky voice of the dialogue telephone conference-line program which hundreds of people listened to twice a month on saturday evening.. up until his death, richard was an attractive, partially balding, gray-haired man, still tall and elegant in appearance, who carried himself with class and dignity no matter how bad he physically felt.

Thanks Randy for posting this.
I never met Richard but I talked to him many, many times on the phone. He tried to help me get the fact that my hall was sending pedophiles door to door on our local news. I truly wish it had worked out but it was not due to Richard not trying. Richard did everything he could to help me.
He will be greatly missed for all of his very hard work and it truly is sad that he is gone.

I am not still in the cult! My husband is and I have no choose about his going in field service.
In fact I totally hate it. My husband wonders why we do not have a marriage and blames me.
I work Monday through Friday, he is gone Saturday and Sunday to the cult. Yet it is my fault we do not spend time together.

If they felt that way then way accept the gifts of money that the worldy people gave them and also all the time the worldy people gave if they have to grive alone.
I am not trying to be uncarring toward the family in any way as you keyser is indacating but not just the family was affected and to people who helped look for Whitney and who knew her to be shut out of her memorial seems very uncarring. Their money is OK to take from them but to not let them come to the memotial just seens uncarring. The family did not even have to be there if they were in such grif.
Also Clint the husband had a pay pal account set up where prople could donate money just the Monday after they found her so his griff was not so bad as he was not above accepting money.

This question has been brothering me for awhile. Why did Whitney Heichel's family not hold her memorial in a large place such as a school gymnasium?
We have has memorial's where I live which is about 600 miles from Portland Or and our city has places that are large enough for 2000 or more. We had one family in our hall whose son was hit by a train and we had over 800 people there. Also we have had in our city non JW's that die and the whole community has shown respect to the family by attending the funeral. I have not attended because I did not know the person but I have seen on the news that they have been as many as 2000 to a funeral of a worldly person here.
Also why was it on a Friday during the day. Why not hold it on a Saturday to show kindness for those who have to work. They could have easily have found a place that would have held up to two thousand or more especially in Portland. I am sure Jehovah would have provided a place.
Something is just not adding up. Think of the great witnesses it would have given to have everyone seeing the chief of police sitting arm in arm with the family, can you not imagine what a great witnesses it would have been to see the mayor and the 'hugging the life out of them.' They could have had boxes of literature out and schools have plenty of places to feed people. This way they would have also not had to turn away ones or had then stand in a tent in the parking lot. They could have then had a small memorial for just the family and not made such a huge thing about it like they did.
Something is just really not adding up.

OTWO I agree I think that is what is bothering me so much. It would be a perfect chance for a pedophile to molest a child.
I agree I do not want more children's lived screwed over. Yet there is nothing I can say or do about it. It just eats at me.
